Automate365 offers the flexibility to create workspace templates from scratch, even if they begin as empty. These blank templates are fundamental for preparing your organization for self-service scenarios, enabling users to provision new workspaces while ensuring proper rules and governance are always applied from the outset.

A blank template provides the essential framework, embedding your organization's required policies, approval flows, and naming conventions. This guarantees that every new workspace, regardless of its starting content, adheres to your defined standards.

Why create a blank blueprint

While copying existing workspaces is ideal for replicating established environments, blank blueprints serve a distinct and crucial purpose. They are designed for scenarios where:

  • No predefined content or structure: You don't have an existing "blueprint" workspace with specific content, design, or a rigid structure to duplicate. The new workspace might start empty or be built up by the user after provisioning.

  • Focus on rules and governance: The primary goal is to apply your organization's essential rules, policies, and approval processes to any new workspace created. This ensures compliance and control from day one, even for simple, generic sites or teams.

  • Empower simple, controlled Self-Service: They enable straightforward self-service provisioning for end-users, allowing them to quickly create basic workspaces that are inherently governed by your A365 policies, without the overhead of complex pre-built content.

Example scenario:

Imagine your organization wants to empower users to create new Microsoft Teams on demand, but with strict controls in place. You need to ensure that every new Team, even if created "from scratch" by users, adheres to specific governance rules.

This is perfect for a blank template. Even without pre-built content, this template embeds your critical governance policies: restricted external sharing, enforced naming formats, data retention rules, and prevented orphaned spaces (with mechanisms for proper ownership and membership). Users can create the Teams they need, while IT maintains essential control.
