Privacy settings in Automate365 allow you to determine whether new Teams created from your templates will be Public or Private by default. This ensures that access and discoverability align with the purpose of the Team.

This setting is exclusive to Microsoft Teams templates, as it relates to the core privacy options available for Teams. Learn more about the types of Teams in this Microsoft Learn article: Overview of Teams and channels.

These privacy settings are configured during the creation or editing of an Automate365 template.

  1. Navigate to the template editing wizard (e.g., when creating a new template or modifying an existing one).

  2. In the left-hand navigation of the wizard, click on Classification, then select Privacy.

Configuring default Privacy

In the "Privacy" section of the template wizard, you will select the default privacy setting for workspaces created from this template. This selection determines the initial discoverability and joinability of the Team.

Choose either 'Private' or 'Public' as the default privacy setting for the template.

Allowing user override

Automate365 provides flexibility by allowing end-users to change the default privacy setting if needed during the provisioning process: Check the box labeled "Allow users provisioning the template to change privacy."

If this option is enabled, users requesting a new workspace using your template will have the ability to change the privacy setting (e.g., changing a default Public team to Private, or vice-versa) during provisioning.

The next crucial step is to determine who will be part of these new workspaces. Learn how to automatically set initial membership and ownership when provisioning a template.
