Release - January 29, 2026

Written by BindTuning Team
Updated over 2 weeks ago

This January release expands on the unified experience introduced last fall, bringing greater clarity, consistency, and flexibility across BindTuning web parts. At its core is the new Media Gallery, a complete evolution of the former Image Gallery, now built to handle both images and video with a smoother content‑creation flow and improved accessibility.

You’ll also find a series of enhancements that make configuration and day‑to‑day management simpler: smarter data source options, more intuitive content creation tools, and a more powerful Field Layout & Sort experience that centralizes mapping, sorting, and visibility settings. These updates are supported by improved rules for form‑field behavior, helping authors understand exactly how fields behave depending on mapping and visibility - reducing friction and preventing common configuration errors.

Finally, improvements across News, Quick Links, Table of Contents, and other web parts reinforce a more reliable, consistent experience, helping teams work faster and with greater confidence in every step of the content‑building process.

To access the newest improvements and enhancements, update to the latest version.

New features

Update Notice - starting from v3.1.2.34Image Gallery → Media Gallery

Media Gallery - New standard experience (v3.1.2.34)

Formerly Image Gallery - upgraded for richer media, simpler content adding and editing, and streamlined configuration.

To ensure a smooth transition to Media Gallery:

  • When updating through the BindTuning App, the Image Gallery web part is automatically replaced by the new Media Gallery.

  • When updating manually via the App Catalog, first delete the existing Image Gallery package, then upload the new Media Gallery package to avoid deployment conflicts.

Redesigned content creation

Clearer, more intelligent content creation, whether using custom lists and libraries or lists and libraries created from the web part:

  • Custom list users get the same intuitive add/edit experience without relying on native SharePoint forms.

  • New intelligent validation prevents adding content to unmapped or hidden fields.

  • “Add Media” allows selecting image/video while also facilitating metadata input (Title, Description, Alt Text, Target Users) - a second click to “Edit” is no longer required.

  • Image/Video “Title” is now independent from file “Name”; when no “Title” exists, it defaults to the file “Name”.

  • Fields in “Add/Edit Media” are now grouped (Media, Content, Audience Targeting) for simpler user experience.

  • Full support for alternative text across all media, improving accessibility.

Smarter data source configuration

A more logical, predictable data source configuration experience.

  • Data source filters (Views, CAML Query, URL) are now grouped visually and aligned with the modern UX introduced in November.

  • New URL-based filtering for lists and libraries.

  • New target folder‑tree picker for libraries.

  • Mappings have been moved to and consolidated under Layout → Field Layout & Sort.

  • List picker labels updated to accurately reflect lists vs. Libraries.

Layout & customization enhancements

More control, less friction.

  • New Field Layout & Sort panel (mapping, visibility toggles, sorting).

  • “Maximum rows” replaces “Pagination” for clarity and cosistency with other web parts

  • Subfolder images are now always included; folder‑structure display is a separate toggle.

  • Both image layouts (card and label) now support title + description.

  • Additional customization:

    • Optional transparency

    • Configurable card and text colors with automatic contrast

    • New “Fixed Section Height” toggle, to ensure the web part always takes the same space on the page, independently of content displayed and end user search/filter

    • New “Reset Gap” button

    • Full support for multi‑library folder structures: when more than 1 document library is selected as a data source, if “Display media organized within folders” is toggled on, each library is represented by a folder with each library content displayed within.

Improved layout field behavior & mapping Rules

Smarter layout behavior, fewer surprises.

  • Refined handling for fields in Add/Edit forms:

    • when the field toggle under “Field Layout & Sort” is off but a mapping exists, field is locked in form

    • when the field toggle under “Field Layout & Sort” is on without a mapping, field is displayed in Add/Edit but locked, with no content, preventing edits until a mapping is defined.

    • when the field toggle under “Field Layout & Sort” is on but the field is mapped to an unsupported column – the form displays content but does not accept new/edited content.

  • Mapping options optimized for relevance:

    • under “Layout » Field Layout & Sort”, for each layout field to be mapped, only readable fields appear in the dropdown, to prevent, non-supported columns to be mapped which will lead to errors in the Add/Edit form. Displaying readable columns ensures that, at a minimum, the web part is able to display (if not write) content stored in those columns. In the future, the web part “Add/Edit” form will be able to convert some types of inputs into different column types.

Search filter sort

Optimized for efficiency

  • Enabled by default for all new Media Gallery instances, independently of the data source chosen; Updated tooltips for all search modes.

  • Searchable, sortable, and filterable fields are mapped to the layout and optimized for relevance.

  • Default Sort now configured under Layout → Field Layout & Sort.

Actions

  • Available only when document library is defined as data source

  • Actions panel aligned to new standardized pattern

  • Document library alerts now follow Microsoft’s guidelines: for a limited time only, existing SharePoint alerts still manageable in classic SharePoint Alerts interface but new alerts must be created via Power Automate templates. Read more at SharePoint Alerts retirement - Microsoft Support

Other Improvements

  • Simpler Settings Panel (Gallery + Image Layout collapsed into Layout), “Alerts” removed; “License” + “About” merged

  • Improved system messages for missing/empty data sources

Improvements

News (v3.1.2.93)

  • Enhanced Layout field behavior in Add/Edit forms and in Field Layout & Sort mapping, improving handling when the field is off but mapped, on without mapping, or on but mapped to an unsupported column – see “Improved Layout Field Behavior & Mapping Rules” above for additional details.

  • Improved system messages for missing/empty data sources

  • Minor custom form styles updates: changed styles of accessibility section titles, shifted custom form panel styles to allow easy access to SharePoint page action toolbar, changed item audience targeting section title

Quick Links (v4.0.2.41)

  • Added item‑level audience targeting, with clearer targeting warnings: target users selected at the item level must belong to the target audience defined for the web part. Currently selection is possible but the item won’t load to a user who does not belong to the target audience defined at the web part level

  • Improved system messages for missing/empty data sources

  • Minor custom form styles updates: changed styles of accessibility section titles, shifted custom form panel styles to allow easy access to SharePoint page action toolbar, changed item audience targeting section title
