Once a BindTuning theme is applied to your Modern SharePoint site, you gain powerful control over its navigation experience. This article guides you through accessing and configuring the various navigation options available via the BindTuning Settings panel.
Prerequisites: Before you begin, ensure the following:
A BindTuning theme must be installed and applied to your modern site.
You have Edit permissions on the page where configuring the navigation.
Access theme navigation settings
Follow these steps to open the BindTuning Navigation configuration panel:
On your SharePoint page, click "Edit" to enter edit mode.
Locate and click the "BindTuning Settings" button on the page. This action will open a side panel on the right side of your screen.
Within the BindTuning Settings side panel, click the "Navigation" option to access all navigation-specific configuration settings.
Configure navigation options
The Navigation panel provides extensive options to customize how your theme's menu behaves and looks.
Menu Provider
This setting determines the source and method by which the theme generates your site's main navigation menu.
Dynamic: The navigation adapts based on factors like user permissions, site context, or personalized settings.
Global: Pulls navigation from a centralized, organization-wide source (e.g., SharePoint home site global navigation).
Current: Uses the navigation structure defined within the settings of the current site you are on.
Term Set: Generates navigation based on a specific Managed Navigation Term Set configured in the SharePoint Term Store.
Legacy: Designed for compatibility with older SharePoint navigation structures or specific migration scenarios.
None: The theme will not display any navigation; you would typically use SharePoint's native navigation elements or another solution.
Pull navigation from
This option specifies the SharePoint scope from which the navigation links are sourced, allowing you to centralize or localize your menu.
Hub site: If your site is part of a SharePoint Hub, navigation is pulled directly from the Hub site's configured navigation.
Current site collection: Navigation is sourced from the top-level site within the current site collection.
Current site: Navigation is pulled from the navigation settings of the specific site you are currently viewing.
Other site: Allows you to specify a URL to pull navigation from a completely different SharePoint site.
Enable Accessibility Features (Toggle)
Toggle this option to improve navigation usability for users relying on accessibility tools, such as keyboard navigation and screen readers.
Refer to this article for detailed Accessibility Features in themes navigation.
Hide Recent Items (Toggle)
Toggle this setting to hide the "Recent" items that SharePoint often displays in its native navigation, providing a cleaner menu.
Hide Recycle Bin (Toggle)
Toggle this to remove the "Recycle Bin" link from the navigation, which is often a default SharePoint navigation item.
Menu Wrap
This setting controls how menu items behave when they exceed the available horizontal space.
Ellipsis: Truncates the menu and indicates more items with an ellipsis (...), often requiring a click to expand.
Multiline: Wraps menu items to the next line, allowing all items to be visible without truncation.
Submenu Style
This defines the visual presentation of your sub-menus.
Megamenu: Displays sub-menus as large, multi-column panels, ideal for rich, hierarchical navigation with many options.
Cascading: Displays sub-menus as traditional drop-down lists that expand horizontally or vertically.
Layout Configurations
These advanced settings allow for fine-tuning the appearance and interaction of your submenus.
Time to open sub-menu (ms): Sets the delay (in milliseconds) before a submenu opens when hovered over.
Submenu fade-in speed (fast/normal/slow): Controls the animation speed when a submenu appears.
Submenu fade-in from (top, bottom, left, right): Determines the direction from which the submenu animates into view.
Max sub-menu width (px): Sets the maximum width (in pixels) for any submenu.
Min submenu width (px): Sets the minimum width (in pixels) for any submenu.
Max number of columns (number): Applicable specifically for the Megamenu style; limits the maximum number of columns displayed within a megamenu.
Remember to Save your changes on the page after configuring your navigation options to apply them to your site.
