BindTuning themes provide a variety of master pages to fully customize your Classic SharePoint environment. After theme installation, you might find some of these master pages are not necessary for your specific site design and wish to remove them. This article covers the necessary steps to remove them.

Important Note: This procedure applies exclusively to Classic SharePoint sites and pages (SharePoint 2013, 2016, 2019, and SharePoint Online in Classic mode). The Modern SharePoint experience does not leverage master pages.

Prerequisites

To perform the steps described in this article, you will need:

  • SharePoint Designer, for accessing and modifying files directly within your SharePoint site's Master Page Gallery. Download it now.

  • Permissions: Ensure you have Site Owner or Designer permissions on the SharePoint site to open and modify its contents using SharePoint Designer.

Removing master pages

Critical Warning: Before proceeding with any deletion, be absolutely certain the master page is no longer in use by any pages or site definitions.

  1. Open your site with SharePoint Designer.

  2. Go to All Files > _catalogs > masterpage.

  3. Locate the folder that corresponds to your theme and access it.

  4. Right-click on the unwanted master page file (e.g., Home.master) and Delete.

After deleting the master page in SharePoint Designer, it will no longer appear as an option in your site's Master Page Settings for selection. You can navigate to Site Settings > Master page (under Look and Feel) to confirm its absence from the dropdown lists.
