Whether you're restructuring your page or removing irrelevant content, knowing how to delete Web Parts is a fundamental skill in SharePoint. This article provides step-by-step instructions for removing Web Parts from both Modern and Classic SharePoint pages.

Keep in mind that when deleting BindTuning Web Parts, you're only removing the display component from the page; any associated SharePoint lists or data sources remain intact and can be reconnected if you decide to add the Web Part back later.

Delete from Modern pages

To delete Web Parts from your Modern SharePoint site or page, follow these instructions:

  1. Access your SharePoint page.

  2. On the ribbon, select Edit.

  3. Navigate to the Web Part you wish to remove.

  4. Select the Web Part (click on it), then click on the Trash icon that appears in its toolbar.

Delete from Classic pages

Delete one web part

To delete a single Web Part from your Classic SharePoint site or page, follow these instructions:

  1. Access your SharePoint page.

  2. On the ribbon, select Edit.

  3. Navigate to the Web Part you wish to remove.

  4. Click on the small arrow that appears in the top-right corner of the Web Part, and then select "Delete" from the drop-down menu.

Delete multiple web parts

For efficiency, SharePoint Classic allows you to delete multiple Web Parts from a page using the Web Part maintenance page.

Caution: To effectively identify and select the correct Web Parts on this page, it's highly recommended to give your Web Parts unique, descriptive names before attempting a multiple deletion.

You can set a Web Part's name in its Properties > Appearance section (by clicking the cogwheel/edit icon on the Web Part and navigating to Appearance).

Follow these steps to delete multiple Web Parts:

  1. Check out the page: On the SharePoint ribbon, click on the Page tab, and then select "Check Out."

  2. Access Web Part Maintenance Page: Append ?contents=1 to the end of your page's URL and press Enter to navigate to this special maintenance view.

    Example: https://yoursharepoint.com/sites/yoursite/SitePages/YourPage.aspx?contents=1

  3. Identify and Select Web Parts: On the Web Part maintenance page, you'll see a list of all Web Parts on the previous page, identified by their titles.

  4. Select the checkbox next to each Web Part you wish to delete.

  5. Click the "Delete" button.

  6. After deleting, navigate back to your standard page URL (remove ?contents=1 from the URL).

  7. Check in and Publish: On the Page tab in the ribbon, "Check In" the page and, if prompted, "Publish a Major Version" to make your changes visible to all users.
