Automate365 templates offer the flexibility to incorporate BindTuning Intranet products (such as themes, web parts, or accessibility tools) to create fully customized Microsoft 365 workspaces. When a template containing these products is provisioned, the BindTuning products must be installed in the target site collection if they aren't already deployed at the tenant level.

This article clarifies the necessary permission levels for installing BindTuning products at the site collection level during Automate365 template provisioning, and provides alternative solutions if these permissions are not met.

Prerequisites
Before proceeding, ensure that a SharePoint Tenant App Catalog has been created in your tenant. If you are a SharePoint Administrator, refer to our article How to create a tenant App Catalog.

Understanding BindTuning Intranet installation

BindTuning Intranet products are deployed as SharePoint Framework (SPFx) solutions (.sppkg files). For them to function within a provisioned site, they must be deployed and available in an App Catalog.

Recommended

Deploying BindTuning products to your Tenant App Catalog makes them available across all site collections in your tenant, simplifying template usage and management.

If tenant-wide deployment isn't feasible due to organizational policies or limited permissions, BindTuning products can be installed directly into a Site Collection App Catalog as part of the Automate365 provisioning process.

Permissions required for installation

The permissions needed depend on whether a Site Collection App Catalog already exists in the target site or needs to be created during provisioning.

1. When a Site Collection App Catalog Needs to Be Created

If the target site collection does not already have an App Catalog, and it needs to be created as part of the provisioning process in Automate365, higher permissions are required to both create the App Catalog and deploy the BindTuning products into it.

Required Permissions:

The user performing the template provisioning must have both of the following roles:

  • SharePoint Administrator

  • Tenant App Catalog Owner or Tenant App Catalog Administrator

2. When a Site Collection App Catalog Already Exists

If the target site collection already has an App Catalog configured to accept app deployments, and you are simply installing or updating BindTuning products within it, fewer permissions are required.

Required Permissions:

The user performing the template provisioning needs to be a Site Collection Owner of the target site collection.

What if permissions aren't met?

If you do not have the necessary permissions for the desired installation scenario, consider these alternatives:

  1. Request Permissions: If appropriate for your role and organizational policy, reach out to your IT Administrator to request the specific SharePoint Administrator and/or Tenant App Catalog Owner/Administrator permissions.

  2. Request Manual Site Creation with App Catalog: Your administrator can manually pre-create the Site Collection and create its associated Site Collection App Catalog. Once this is done, being a Site Collection Owner of that new site will be sufficient for you to apply the template in Automate365.

  3. Invite the IT Administrator to Perform Installation: You can request your administrator (who has the required permissions) to run the template installation themselves directly within Automate365.
